![]() Second, and more importantly, is this likely to fix the problem, will the BIOS adjust, or will I be stuck with whatever humanly unreachable settings are already there regarding NX, SSE2, and PAE? I am a novice to CPU upgrades and especially confused on how the whole BIOS thing relates to it. ![]() I don't know the original source of the author, can anyone confirm this? First, a little google brought me to a post on a thread on some other site saying my options are the E6700 2.66GHz or the 3.2GHz. ![]() Seems I can pick up a processor for less than $20 on eBay. Before you tell me to just throw the whole pile of crap out, this machine is mostly for browsing, email, a little Word and Excel, no race car needed, but I'd like to use Win10. OK, so my next thought (and maybe I'm missing another solution?) is upgrade the processor and kill 2 birds with one stone. From what I've read elsewhere, NX is a usual suspect. I ran Coreinfo, which claims the CPU is capable, however, when I go into the BIOS, I don't see any setting I can change, or any indication that they are actually active. Win10 claims it's not up to CPU spec, and a little research reveals it could be that the CPU needs certain instructions active, such as NX, SSE2, and PAE. ![]() It has the latest BIOS Gateway made available (vintage 2007, yeah baby!). I have a Gateway GT5408 which has an Core 2 Duo E4300 1.8GHz.
